April 27 Xbox 360 AwesomenessWell, I am actually tired after my last escapade, but I think I still have enough energy to write about the amazing transformation I put my Xbox 360 through at the expense of the warranty ofcoarse. Anyways, I recently decided that I had had enough of the Whiteness vibe the 360 kept giving me, so I did something about it. I headed over to Llamma.com and ordered a bunch of stuff put into the beast including a new case made by XCM that is to be dubbed "The Black Knight". Anyways, I recieved all of my shipment in yesterday and got started immediately. The first thing on the agenda was to rip out the cooling system and replace it with a more efficient fan system made by Talismoon. So I ended up replacing the stock fan with the Talismoon fan, and also ended up swaping out the stock air duct for a clear, LED lit one. Once that was done I started placing the LED strips on the top and bottom of the case to really get some glow out of the top and bottom vents. After wiring everything that needed electricity, I bundled up the wires and prepared to work on the case. The Black Knight case was my first choice because it was the nicest looking black case I could find anywhere. After unwrapping all the parts to the case I took it out the garage and cut out the holes for the fans, glued the plexi-glass insert in and then put the whole thing together, and WALLA! You have one hell of a beast!
Click Here, For Pictures. April 24 "Live Anywhere" Is Upon UsWell, well, I went over to Major Nelson's Web Site, and what do you know? Halo 2 (Windows) shows up in his gamercard. I thought that was pretty cool that not only will your Xbox games show up in there, but now the PC games you play will also have an impact. The only problem with this that I can see is that PC gamers should not be able to play with console users. I mean lets take some time to analyze the scales here. One person has a controller with two analog-sticks and the other has a mouse and keyboard. Any gamer with half a brain could tell you that even a complete newb could beat a seasoned veteran if all the veteran had to work with were the analog-sticks opposed to the mouse and keyboard, but thats a different story for a different time. April 23 Can You Feel It? Feels like... Like AIRLast night, actually the night before last night at this point I was looking into some modifications that could be done to the Xbox 360 to keep that insanely hot Tri-Core cool. Anyways I ran across numerous techniques for increasing suction of the fans, watercooling the thing, wiring the fans to the 12V powersource opposed to the 5V they run on by default, etc. Anyways the most practical involved ramoving the mesh grill from the plastic case and then the metal housing, thus increasing airflow considerably and also gettig rid of some noise as well. The only problem with this was that if you know me, you would know that my stuff not only has to function well, but has to be pleasing to the eye. So I got to thinking and decided that instead of taking all of the mesh away I would just take what was necessary out to allow airflow to increase and also allow a fan grill to securely cover the opening. So after some hours toying around with a dremel and some zip ties believe it or not, I have had what I believe to be a great success. Keep in mind that my black case is coming in that mail still and once it is here I will try to update this post, but I really think the Chrome will go extremly well with it.
April 21 Black HD DVD DriveFinally, I have wanted all of my Xbox Paraphernallia to be black because lets face it; the Xbox was aesthetically pleasing as hell, I mean the thing was a Beast. And while the inside of the 360 is definately a beast, the outside tends to make hardcore gamers wonder if it really is serious or not. Anyways, I have decided to pony up and get what I want by adding a little color if you will to my HD DVD drive, and later my Xbox 360 when all of the parts I ordered come in. I basically just took it apart and painted all of the white plastic black. I have uploaded what seems to me to be a lot of pictures about the assembly, and if you follow them backwards you should be ablet to take it apart on your own although I did seem to skip a couple of the last steps. The only hard part is pulling the top off. You have to pull hard as hell to get it off, but never fear it will eventually come off. As you can see, the results are well worth the blood, sweat and tears, that is if painting makes you cry, or bleed for that matter.
April 16 The Trilogy In HD! Well, Almost...Well, whats new, there is nothing to do after work on Sunday, so today I decided to watch Star Wars: A New Hope because lets face it, I am a nerd. As you all well know every nerd has to renew his/her Star Wars, or Star Trek knowledge every so often, so I dusted off the DVD and popped it into the HD DVD drive for my 360 and what do you know, not HD, but Damn Close. Close enough in fact that my 360 can now vouch that it has seen the entire original Star Wars Trilogy, all in one night. I just finished Return of the Jedi and I think I am going to head off to bed. Oh yea, and I hadn't noticed that Hayden Christensen is in Return of the Jedi when Luke is looking back upon Obi-Wan, Yoda, and his father. Honestly, I thought it was kind of gay, should have kept it original, everyone looks like they did when they died or at least close, and then Aniken is in his fricken twenties. I suppose you could debate as to whether Aniken Skywalker truly died in his twenties though. Anyways, I am about to do a project concerning my xbox that I am super excited about, so more on that soon, for any of you unfortunate enough to actually stumble across this blog, let alone read it. April 10 Reaction To Bungie's Latest VidocWow, as if I couldn't get anymore excited about the Halo 3 Beta. I mean right as I am simmering down from the explosion of rumors that followed the Maintenance that Xbox Live recently went through Bungie has to go and ruin my perfectly in place study habits by forcing nearly half of brain to wonder how certain new elements in the Halo 3 universe will effect other new or old elements, not to mention overall gameplay. Alright the first and biggest improvement, or modification shall we say to prevent this blog from becoming an argument is the feature fans are already calling "Deployments". Now I have not done enough research to confirm that "Deployments" is the actual technical term designated by bungie for these new features, but for the purpose of this blog, thats what we will call them. Anyways, Bungie has confirmed two "Deployment" types and all but promis more are in the works. The current two are the Bubble Shield, which seemed to have an early birth when Master Chief deployed one in what was said to be strictly a cinematic trailer and nothing else. And the second is the Trip Mine, which can used to blow up oncoming vehicles. Both of these new "Deployments" sound amazing, and I personally can't wait to see what other "Deployments" Bungie has come up with to put in the final release of the game. Who knows we may even see some new ones in the Beta. Only time will tell. I am personally very impressed with bubble shield idea and can't wait to explore the possibilities of having a virtual bubble of protection around you and possibly other teammates. One of the other things that really struck me is the look of the levels and players. While they were definately of next gen quality, I have to be a little critical and say that Bungie still has a lot of work to do, but for the most part I am sure its being taken care of. I realized that all of the footage that was shown was from the Alpha build and I also realized that since the Alpha build, bungie has come out and said that an entire coat more of polish has been applied since, and it seems like every week in the weekly update they have more to say about what they added the previous week, so we will definately see about that. Other than that the only other thing that really struck me as a good thing is that they are regressing the starting weapon lineup back to the rifle and maybe some grenades. But either way, I was kind of getting sick of the SMG anyways. April 04 Guitar Hero II, Massively AwesomeAlright, I have to admit when I first heard of this game it sounded like another gimmicky piece of crap. But then I saw Guitar Hero become incredibly popular. And then, Guitar Hero II came along and flew off of the shelves the first week it was there. Now the 360 it seems has taken a does of Rock n' Roll because Guitar Hero II is now available and naturally I went out first thing this morning to go grab myself a copy of the game along with the guitar controller. At first, like everyone I presume, I sucked, I didn't only suck, I sucked so hard I could have easily made a golf ball go right through a garden hose with my suckiness. But then I began to realize that there is a certain rythem to the game, a certain, how do I say it, mood, the user has to be in. At first, I had to be slightly serious to learn the basics, and then I stepped it up and started rockin a little bit and finally I came to a point where the mediums became do-able and the easy songs, were, well, easy. Currently I am working on making through all of the mediums and I have also proudly gotten one of the Expert songs out of the way, WOOT! Anyways, the key for this game is to go through the campagn systematically from easy to expert and you will pick up the necessary skills as you go. Be warned though, your reaction time will only get you so far and you made need practice for the Hard songs, and you will definately need practice for the Expert songs before you attempt them live and make a fool of yourself.
Anyways, I am totally giving this game a 5 Out Of 5, for all around stellar gameplay, solid range of skill requirements for different players, and more re-playability than I can possibly imagine. |
